Year-round sunlight is critical for allowing greenspaces to thrive in densely populated urban centers. Protecting the Boston Common, Public Garden, and Commonwealth Avenue Mall from shadow encroachment while supporting robust downtown development is key to our advocacy goals. Friends of the Public Garden continues its steadfast commitment to support the existing shadow laws and opposes any further erosion of these critical protections. Additionally, we have developed a Sunshine Model that identifies key areas for development without impacting the amount of sunshine on your parks.
