HOLIDAY LIGHTS
For the past 26 winters, the Commonwealth Avenue Mall’s stately trees have glowed with festive seasonal lights. This iconic seasonal display—inspired by the illuminated tree-lined boulevards of Paris—was the vision of the late philanthropists Joan and Ted Cutler and then-Boston Parks Commissioner Justine Mee Liff. The Cutlers’ sense of civic pride inspired others in the neighborhood to join in support, and the all-volunteer Committee to Light the Commonwealth Avenue Mall was born.
Today, neighbors, local businesses, and like-minded organizations continue to come together to raise the support needed for this beloved annual tradition. The Friends is building on the remarkable legacy of the Cutlers and the Committee: illuminating the Mall from early December to late March, from Arlington Street to Charlesgate.
The Mall’s seasonal magic is made possible entirely by the philanthropic support of individuals, foundations, and corporations.
