The Boston Water & Sewer Commission has just shared a project update with anticipated impacts related to the ongoing Boston Common Water Main Rehabilitation Project. The four access points along the Beacon Street Mall will remain closed for the duration of the project.

The Boston Water and Sewer Commission Pipe Relining Project on Boston Common has been slightly delayed. BWSC is expected to pave all affected areas by early next week. This will enable them to remove the fencing and restore access at Joy Street and the side entrances, which marks a crucial phase in the project timeline. We will continue to update our community as this project progresses and additional entrances reopen.

The Friends has successfully coordinated with BWSC and their contractors to ensure the installation of additional wayfinding signs. This signage is intended to alleviate pedestrian confusion and help protect the turf by limiting pedestrian desire lines.

BWSC has ensured that all impacted areas of pavement and landscaping will be restored to pre-construction conditions once the project is complete. The Friends will work to confirm that all restoration efforts have been completed in a satisfactory manner.

In case of emergency, please contact BWSC’s 24/7 hotline at 617-989-7000. For other maintenance concerns, we recommend using the Boston 311 app to file a report directly with the City of Boston.
