Phase 1 of the Child Fountain Restoration Project is now complete.

A 30-ton cement vault was delivered last week, an exciting step in setting the stage for ongoing utility work over the winter. The vault will be installed underground and will house the electrical and plumbing equipment that runs the pump, filtration, and lighting systems for the Child Fountains.

Demolition and excavation work continue, with a focus on regrading the area to make the fountains themselves more accessible. Pathways will be realigned in this part of the park; demolition of existing paving has begun.

Crews recently installed two large infiltration systems beneath the lawn panels to capture and distribute water when the fountain is drained for maintenance or shut down at the end of the season. This will keep fountain water out of the City’s stormwater system and enhance water conservation.
