We’re excited to introduce the newest member of Team Friends – Cody Jennings! Our new Senior Parks Care Manager is a plant enthusiast and holds a Masters of Horticulture from the University of Minnesota. His experience in horticulture ranges from turfgrass management, plant propagation, and organic farming. His interests include building healthy soils and exploring the use of low-input fescues and perennial ryegrass cultivars. Before joining the Friends, Cody was an Assistant Superintendent for Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. Cody is excited to be living in Boston and joining the Friends to continue our mission of advocacy and preservation of the park system.

What made you interested in the Friends?

I was drawn to the Friends mission of advocacy and stewardship. I wanted to be part of the Friends team caring for these great Boston parks.

Favorite turf project you’ve worked on or your greatest greenspace success?

My favorite turfgrass project was preparing for the 2022 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Congressional Country Club. Maintaining turfgrass for PGA Championships is both challenging and rewarding.

What specific aspects of greenspace management excite you?

What excites me about greenspace management is working with all the different plant, turf, and tree species and how each interacts with each other and their environment. Every season presents different challenges and opportunities for creating beautiful public space.
