Fountains of Fun ~ Lunch on Us

The weather was perfect for Leslie Adam, Board chair of the Friends, Liz Vizza, Friends Executive Director, Chris Cook, Parks Commissioner and the 5th grade poets from the Quincy School to welcome a large crowd to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Brewer Fountain. A proclamation by the Mayor was read by Commissioner Cook declaring June 14, 2018 to be Brewer Fountain Day in honor of Gardner Brewer’s gift of the fountain to the City of Boston in 1867, the first piece of public art on the Common (which started flowing in June of 1868), its restoration in 2010 by the City with support from Save America’s Treasures and the Friends, and the revitalization of Brewer Fountain Plaza by the Friends in partnership with the City and with the support of many generous donors.

The Friends sponsored our food truck partners Bon Me, Fresh Food Generation, and Cookie Monstah to provide free food while the Northeastern Pep Band played for the crowd. A good time was had by all!

Special thanks to our event sponsor

At the celebration, students from the J. Quincy School read poems they wrote commemorating the fountain.
