The Friends of the Public Garden has reviewed the Draft Environmental Impact Report prepared by Millennium Partners. While the building height has been lowered, there will still be a shadow impact on our City’s most central and intensively used parks, the Boston Common and Public Garden.
This project has, however, created the pathway for a comprehensive plan for Downtown as well as a new Master Plan for the Common which will be supported by a $28 million contribution from Winthrop Square. We commend Mayor Walsh for his active engagement in the process and his commitment to these historic parks.
Throughout our 48 years as stewards of the Boston Common, Public Garden, and Commonwealth Avenue Mall, the Friends has been a steadfast and vocal advocate for our three treasured parks and we will continue to be deeply involved in these efforts as the public process moves forward.
