MONUMENT & MEMORY TASK FORCE

The Goals of the Monument & Memory Task Force are:

• To critically examine the monuments in the Boston Common, Public Garden, and Commonwealth Avenue Mall and consider their impact on a diverse community.
• To lift up untold stories in the parks.
• To engage in public dialogue about Boston’s history and social and cultural fabric, and its representation in public sculpture.

In addition to engagement with the public art on Boston Common, a Research Working Group has researched and documented the Indigenous history of our parks. The Monument and Memory initiative has included a Steering Committee, who approved the initiative’s goals and values, and has periodically reviewed and provided feedback on the work of the Working Groups.
